Media Studies and Film Studies sit within the Creative Arts and Technologies Department, which is a thriving and dynamic area catering for over 500 students studying a range of A-level, vocational and enrichment courses in Media, Film and Arts. Staff have high expectations of all students and working relationships are positive and supportive. There is an excellent record of student achievement on all courses. Staff work closely together in planning the delivery of courses, developing teaching materials and exchanging ideas, resources and teaching strategies. Media and Film students have a record of producing outstanding film and digital print coursework and frequently win awards in regional and national competitions.

The media courses offered by the department are:

  • A level Media Studies
  • A level Film Studies
  • UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology

The department has recently benefited from significant upgrading of our already well-resourced Media and Film facilities. Lessons take place in dedicated teaching rooms with excellent facilities for photographic, graphic, HD film and video/sound editing and a brand  new studio space. Students benefit from access to high quality video and digital filming cameras and multimedia suites of computers with access to the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite. Innovation in teaching approaches is very much welcomed and supported. Media and Film students have a record of producing outstanding film and digital print coursework and frequently win awards in regional and national competitions.

The aim of the department is to enrich the learning experience of our students by delivering the syllabus in a manner which is contemporary, varied and challenging. The Department benefits from its interdisciplinary approach which encourages cross-department collaborative learning.

Wherever possible, we can offer flexibility in the subjects to be taught, considering your personal experience, skills and preferences. As a Personal Tutor, you will also motivate, monitor, support and guide students academic progress through regular one-to-one consultations.
